IT'S. FECKING. OVER.

Finally, OMFGs.

I haven't been able to write.

I haven't been able to do much of anything, let alone breathe, for four very long interminable years.

Today, I watched as our newly elected officials included a woman, for the first time EVER. Kamala Harris, a Black/Asian/American woman. A woman Vice President.

And a message of hope.

Finally, finally, finally, these last four years of horror and what-the-fuck are OVER.

Maybe, just maybe, I can write some again. If I can breathe, I can write.

Blessed Beltaine!

This is what I wrote on my Facebook today:

Blessed, happy, holy Beltaine to one and all. Wash your face in the morning dew, to retain your youthful beauty. Revel in Spring-turning-to-Summer. Be kind. Be radically kind.
As I recently read somewhere, Beltaine is not Valentine's Day for Pagans. You don't need a partner to celebrate. Love yourself. Love yourself *exactly* as you are, because you are worth it, and let that love radiate outwards, like the rays of the burgeoning Sun.

Do I believe all of that? You betcher sweet arse I do.

In this new world of It's Perfectly Okay To Be Loud And Proud About What An Asshole I Am, I've decided that radical kindness is the resistance.

I met a new friend yesterday. A fellow Witch and polyamorous person, who lives right here in Worcester. Ten minutes away. I hope she likes me. How silly is that to feel like a schoolgirl hoping to be liked? Not romantic-liked, but just friend-liked.
While I have lots and lots of acquaintances, I don't have many friends, if any, locally. I don't really have room on my plate for them.
But if I had one, or two, wouldn't that be cool, to have a coffee for an hour every now and then.

I realized I have been in MA for near to six years now, and while I am more or less used to it, and VERY grateful to be here in liberal tolerance open-minded everybody-is-important land, the accent is still throwing me
😂
I seriously hope I am not picking it up. I tend to be an accent sponge. Ugh. I resist it every chance I remember. It can be cute on other people, but, um, nope, not me.

A's visit was very lovely, and we had a great time at Passover, but not nearly enough time together. Hopefully Summer she can come back again to see me for a bit longer
💕

Working on a small art project for D's birthday, which is this coming weekend, holy hell, where did the time go? I need to get that done today, if I can, or it ain't happening.

Rambly rambly.... good May, y'all.

Ostara Blessings!

So we are still living in Salvador Dali-land, here in the good ol' US of A, and things just keep getting worser and worser, to quote my favourite Alice.
Already there's umpty-nine people planning to run the Democratic ticket in the fall of 2020. Republicans are awfuller than ever they were. This is gonna be one interesting campaign season. Once again, I am super, super glad I don't have TV. And as much as I needed the hours, I'm glad I don't have that client that has Faux News on, a lot, and loudly, for the 6 hours a day I was there.

Ostara is upon us. I don't know from balance at all. My world is downside-up, as it were. My sweet child has been diagnosed with a new and (to me)  pretty devastating mental condition, which of course manifests behaviorally. Frequently negatively.
I already live in bipolar world. In my house. Up down up down up down, sometimes many times in a day. It's quite unsettling.
Ima be quite real and raw, here. It's already hard enough to be me, without going into much detail-- my closest loved ones know my issues.
But this is really new, and my world was already really difficult to navigate, without adding this on top of it, and I so badly want to be the support system-- of course I do, being Mom.
It's SO hard. So freaking hard.
I'm day-at-a-timing it in a  huge way.
Not whining. Just mostly venting.
I wish I had a support system for me. Trying to find online support groups for this. I feel so alone.

Looking for Ostara images because reasons, and I found one that had a sentiment on it with a part I *really* liked-- "It is the perfect time to start new projects, access new ideas, and give birth to new conditions".
GIVE BIRTH TO NEW CONDITIONS.
Give birth to *new conditions*!!!

Holy cow.
This is huge.
I can *SO* use this.

I've been working on practicing self-care, and part of that is drums, and art, and meditation, and Netflix. Stuff for me, that makes me feel good. Doing it, too. Incense. Candles.
And my counselor gave me a Google Mini that is the coolest thing EVAH. It's this little device that plugs into the wall, in my bedroom, connects through Bluetooth to my phone, and I can go "Hey Google, do ____" and it will do it! Play music through my Pandora account, tell me the weather in bumf*ck Egypt, road conditions, jokes, puns, all sorts of silliness, all sorts of information. News. Sports. Weather. ANYthing.
And it's got voice recognition to my voice. So I think only I can activate it.
I said "Hey Google, play Pandora please" and this was the first time I added "please" because even though it's a device, I feel rude not saying please, and the thing goes "Okay. Play Pandora. Thanks for asking like that" 😀😦
I love it. LOVE.
My geeky library self is all over this thing.

So I'm alone right now, and I'm really enjoying the quiet 😁I hope to have a long, lovely weekend. My partner D and I are going to be coloring eggs for the Ostara ritual and potluck next week, and my partner A is coming to visit for the weekend of Passover, YAY!!! By that time we'll have not seen one another for eight months. She and I are going to our old friend Chiq's for Seder on Saturday night, like I've been doing for the past 5 years. It's a good time.

Lots to look forward to. I'm putting my mind in positive.

I would like to get past the Not Writing, to the Writing. But it's been a hard go, these past two years, with the surreal country and the state thereof, that I now live in.

These days, I have a full plate and more than a full plate. My boy is in his senior year in high school, and he was chosen for a paid internship in his major, during school hours, so every other week I drive him to work, go to my own work, and pick him up later. He's making more money than me, right now! I hope he gets hired on after graduation. Wouldn't that be peachy?
And every other week in between, I get to sit quietly for a half hour to an hour in the dark of my Mom Cave, at the computer, with a candle and incense, and contemplate the rising day.

Surrounding that, we have 7 hours of appointments weekly, and I hope that will do a thing we need for it to do. That, in addition to whatever doctor and dentist appointments we have, and picking up prescriptions and what-not.

I am exhausted nearly every day. What gets me through is I know it's temporary. And also my two partners-- my two romantic companions, who are the utmost in supportive. I don't know how I would get by without their support.
I have next to zero time for creativity, or relaxation, or even reading, but I am trying to fit those things in as best I can.
I have sleep habits. Which is great. I have habits, lots of them, and they keep me sane.
I read every night before sleep, in bed, if I can manage to keep my eyes open long enough.

I'm signed up for an online (email and website) art prompt class. I'm on, I think, my fourth project with this. I'm not sure I'm doing great art-- I don't think so. But I'm doing it, which is what counts. I'm making art.
I'm trying to sit for 5 lousy minutes on the drum kit a day, but that has mostly gone to the side for now.

And, my boy is taking driving school. This week is the book work stuff. Then we have to get his permit and then he gets to take the practical (behind the wheel). Then I have to observe him while he drives, for forty hours, before 6 months from now when he can take his driving test.
Ye gods. I shall close my eyes and chant "We All Come From The Goddess" to calm my frayed nerves.

Oh, and speaking of which-- CBD oil is the bomb. I don't know or care how or why it works, but it does, and it does not get me high, which I was nervous about, being in recovery. It soothes anxiety like nobody's business. Yay it!

Right now, we have a Winter storm warning for overnight. I am thoroughly enjoying the calm before the storm. Literally. The quiet, the stillness, the dark and impending sky. It's my favorite weather, next to actual storm.

Antici--- pation.

Mabon!

Happy and Blessed Equinox to all!

The Autumnal Equinox is the other time of Balance in the year... the first being the Vernal, or Spring, Equinox, in March.
It's a time of balance. It's the time when the day and the night are of equal length.

I can't help, in these volatile political times here in the US of A, but think of balance when it comes to equality and equity for all.
Which we have never had.
I'm not going into political rant or discourse, because that's not what I do, except to say that I am ALL ABOUT EQUALITY.... for all. I stand hardcore for the downtrodden, the marginalized, the bottomest ones of all.
Just so's you know.
And if anyone is ever in need of a hug, or shelter from storms, or a lending ear, I am available. I don't have much, and yes, I am mad wary, and very guarded and jealous of my space and time, but that said, I would extend a hand-up if it was that dire. As best as I'm able.

Tomorrow is the Mabon ritual out at http://www.churchofasphodel.org/ where I go for my spiritual home. I have been a member there for a couple of years.
I'm bringing a Harvest Ratatouille from veggies I got at the farmers market: eggplant, zucchini, onions, mushrooms, celery, tomatoes (those are from a can-- shhh! 😉) and a bit of granulated garlic and salt and pepper. Oh, and olive oil. Yum, yum.

I'm grateful, this holy day, for my child, who is growing up as we speak. He has his job back at the haunted house for October, and is starting the first weekend I'm going to the Cape with my partner D for the weekend. He gets to try out being alone for two days, rather than one, while mama (me, duh) tries hard not to worry and fret and wonder if I'll have a house and two cats to come home to, let alone a kid.
I'm grateful for my partners, D and A, who are both awesome each in their own way, and for the abundance of love that I have.
I'm grateful that my mom is still very much alive, and healthy. And that my brother is nearby to her, to watch and take care, should (gods forbid) anything happen-- he is right there.
I'm grateful I live in Massachusetts, where there's health insurance, and four seasons. I'm grateful I don't have to shovel the Winter. I'm grateful for food in my belly and a roof over our heads, and that we have just enough money to cover our needs. And a car.
My senses, all of which work. My body, which works just the way it should. My blood pressure, which is generally low-ish. I am almost 59 years old and I am not on any meds, and I can still balance on one foot.
And, of course, covfefe 😄

Last day of August

Finally.... OMG, how I loathe Summer.

I know, I know... I'm so in the minority. Whatever. I'm not good in the heat. I'm that Witch in The Wizard of Oz when they throw the water on her... "I'm melting; I'm melting!"... Yep, me. In the heat. We have a blessed relief from it for the weekend, and dang it! For Labour Day and the next dang WEEK, that I can tell, back up to 90* again. Frackity frack.

I am so grateful for air conditioning. I do not know how people stand it otherwise.

I knew this mom back in Asheville who was from Florida, if I remember correctly, whose daughter was in my kid's homeschool group, that LOVED the heat. She loved it in the 90s and could live in tropics... oh HELL no, not me, nope nope nope. All for her. My friend Jessica lives in Arizona and loves it, too, and the humidity, and I see her as a plant that revives with a drink of water. Maybe it's living in that Arizona dry heat that fuels her need for humid, I dunno.

Anyway. Tomorrow begins the season of SEPTOBER, and I shall spend part of the weekend decorating a little, and redoing my altar for Mabon.

School is back in session. My boy is a senior! Yowsa. As Gretchen Rubin says, the years are long, but the days are short. Ye gods. He's like 5'8" or 5'9" and towers over me, and I'm his little Hobbity mama. The mornings, this week, have been so pleasant. I'm grateful for that, too.

Our Song Challenge song is done, with video! I'll post a link once we submit it to the challenge.

I'm having a grateful day, so far 💓

I am twenty four years and one day sober

Yesterday was my 24 years 💗

TWENTY FOUR.

Let that sink in for a minute.

I have a friend, Morgan, who was born on that day, that year. August 23, 1994. I tell her she is my sobriety gift. But seriously, she's a full grown adult with two children and I have been sober as long as she has been alive.
That totally blows my mind.
Today, my kid and I went out for a Starbucks to celebrate, and to spend some time together, and he waxed poetic about how he loves the time we spend together like that, and I'm his hero for quitting all the substances, and he doesn't care who sees that he will still hold my hand in public a little, 'cause his mom rocks and is awesome and I always have his back and stuff.... brought me to tears, for real, that one did.
This has been a Best Day, in my book. Marking this one, for sure. My kid loves me THAT MUCH. And, he is awesome. I told him he is my crowning moment of being alive at all. Which is true.

In other news, my partner D and I are recording and recording... we have like 4 or 5 songs down for our eventually pending album, and I have even sung vocals on some of them. And I sang lead vocals on this weird experimental-y song that they did for a different project.
Sheena sang.
Sheena sang lead. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
And we are doing another Song Challenge for Victor Infante's Telegram & Gazette thingy. That's gonna be so fun. Will post when it's published!

I am hoping my partner A can come visit me after her birthday weekend. I'm putting all kinda Witchy energy towards that.

I'm busybusybusy. But it's good busy. I have new clients that I really like, and this week some extra time off, and even though it's going to be a beastly ninety-two freaking degrees for the first three days of next week, I know Septober is coming. I have even put a couple of orangey decorations up. I can hardly stand it. I lovelovelove the Autumn. Love. I'm so ready.

Almost Lammas, and Sobriety Anniversary

So it's going to be Lammas in a couple of days. The first of three harvest festivals, in many Pagan traditions.
I am dieting (again), so will not be partaking of the first fruits, as it were. But that's okay. I started this go-round right around 140 lbs, so it's probably the lowest start weight of any yet. I'm determined to at some point get to, and stay in, the 120s. Where I was in my 20s or so. Plus, wiggle room. My body keeps trying so hard to get me super fat again, and I will not have it.
I didn't realize how utterly uncomfortable that was, 'till I lost a good portion of that poundage! I could breathe easier, for real.
I want to stay under 134, tops.

So my kid hasn't gotten another job. His anxiety has ramped up 😪 and I think it's just really hard, in general, for him to go present himself to strangers in authority as a neurotypical person. I hope he'll be able to. Because I'd love to see him get out on his own and be a responsible, mature adult in a couple of years... at best.
For real, he and his girlfriend asked me again if she could live here, and pay rent, and I went in there and said NO FREAKING WAY, that while I love them both, I am trying to eject people from my home, and not add people. I love my child beyond reason-- and I honestly can't wait to live alone. I love my own company so freaking much. And, I can choose to be in company or not, when I'm alone.

I lost my only client, not to death, thank all the gods, but to a nursing home, which it was well past time, and I am SO glad she's getting the care she needs. I am super glad not to be driving 10 hours a week to work 15.
I am sad, though, and to be honest, more than a bit scared of income insecurity.
I applied for a job as Personal Assistant to a couple from the UU. My hours of availability aren't flexible enough for them, but they like me, so I shall hear back in a couple of days.
Meanwhile, I'm filling in for my regular job, with clients, and I have a new one every Friday morning. I like him.

I will be celebrating twenty-four years of continuing sobriety, on August the 24th. I am so stoked. Today is 23 years, 11 months, and 4 days. Not that I'm counting or anything.
The other thing I thought of is, if I'm not working, it'd sure be nice to hit a few meetings. It's for real been months and months and maybe almost a year since I've been to one. My sobriety is in no way threatened-- again, I am such a loner and introvert-- and I do stick very closely to my program and my spirituality, which pretty much converge. But it'd still be nice to actually go.

I'm starting, this year, to finally really love Massachusetts. I love the weather, the seasons, the health insurance, and I lovelovelove my partners, whom I would not be with if it weren't for moving up here.
They still talk funny here, though.

Couple of quick updates.

Juneteenth, almost https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juneteenth

I am sitting in my quiet Mom Cave (living-room), for probably the last time till Tuesday afternoon, because my partner A is coming to visit for the weekend-- which is awesome! But y'all know me, introverted quiet-time one. It's all good. She honors my need for silence when I ask.
Coffee, also... YUM... all the coffeeeeee................

My poor boy... he'd gotten a job at McDonald's, and he was not all that happy there; I mean, it is McDonald's after all, but he was making money and doing the very best he could. And he wasn't good enough for the one manager he mostly worked under, and he got the word that he was fired yesterday. Through a third party text. How freaking lousy is that.
So I have to say, I am really proud of him for putting his all into a menial piece of shite job, working with lousy a-holes, and being the better man for not blasting that manager out the wahoo, which he really oughtta. His firing reason was a clear bunch of guano.
I hope he gets back up on the horse soon, after a weekend of grieving. I feel so bad for him. Learning the ways of adulthood and the working world is SO hard.

A and I are going to be celebrating our 1-year anniversary as partners. We're exchanging kitty-cat rings and having a little ceremony.

I had an absolutely epic date with my partner D yesterday, as I won't be going to their house for the weekend.

Today it's overcast and not even 60*F, and Monday it is supposed to be ninety-seven freaking degrees. I shall wilt. I think I shall have the boy and A help me put in the kitchen AC over the weekend!

Oh, and next weekend... Midsummer at Asphodel, then Sunday is the Punkcake Alterno-Art Pop-Up and Flea at Ralph's... the first one for the summer! I am so there. I reconnected with Friend Scott M from college (1980, whoa), who lives in Lynn, MA, and he's hopefully coming to hang with me, along with Friend Jo from my first band Distortion, and maybe a couple other old punkers 💓💗

I'm so glad I am who I am. I'm so grateful I grew up when I did. My life is so awesome. Punk rock STILL rules. And oh, by the way, Punk Rock TreeHouse is working on our 4th song. Almost 1/3 of the way to an album!

Friday, June 8, 2018

So now it's June... and some news.

1) My partner and I have a band, though it's a studio band only, being's there's just the two of us. But we are slowly working towards an album. Thus far, we have three songs. I'm practicing the drum part for the next one.

The band is called Punk Rock TreeHouse.
The album will be entitled Mischief.
The songs are on Instant Dogma productions, and here are links to listen to them, yes, for FREE, go 'head, you know you wanna:

This is the first song, called Manifesto: instantdogma.net/TH/Manifesto.mp3
This is the 2nd one, called The Man: http://instantdogma.net/TH/The_Man.mp3
And here is a video, even! For number three, called Division: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nCb3ay8TPSU

There! Can't beat free awesome music. Though we will be selling the album (for cheap! get one!) when it's done!
So, it's me on drums, and some percussion, and even sharing vocals for Manifesto, and my partner on everything else, including production and engineering.
Enjoy!

OH! And here is the link to Instant Dogma home page, in case ya wanna buy more stuff from before Punk Rock TreeHouse: http://instantdogma.net/

2) More news... I dunno if I said, but my boy is working!!! A job, even! He works at McDonald's. He's been there like 5 weeks.
Which:
Teenager + McDonald's + longevity (I think 5 weeks at fast food really is longevity) = pretty amazing.
And, his schedule is more or less consistent-- not complaining at all!
He's not much liking McD's, but he is liking a paycheck. And he's putting money towards a new phone, which he already put a hefty down payment on, and is paying it off in 5 weeks (well, 4, now, since today's payday). I'm pretty proud of him for the commitment.

3) My job... ye gods, it's getting hard. It's so hard watching an old person decline, especially one I've cared for for over two years. Stuff is taking twice as long to do half as much. Poor thing 😢

4) My partner A and I are celebrating a year of partnership at Midsummer, so she's coming to visit me on the 13th for the weekend to commemorate. That'll be fun! I'm excited to see her... it's been since like November.

5) Weather: Still not very summery. Last post I had 2 of the ACs in, and since then I've put in my bedroom one, but haven't much needed them. For the past three days I've still worn long sleeves to work. Yeah, but they ain't no climate change, uh-huh... I'm still mostly wearing flannel around the house.
And Litha is in two weeks.
D and I will be going to Asphodel. They're asking for to bring yellow foods to the potluck... I am at an utter loss as to what to bring that's diet compliant to the lowest common denominator. Or at least something I can eat 😂 I'm thinking Baba Ganoush and some cut veggies, maybe multi colored peppers... at least they look sunny 😊

Happy Midsummer, y'all!

Beltane, and D's Birthday

For the last two days, it's been 87*F, and I scurried to put the air conditioners in... in two rooms. I have four air conditioners, come by in a free and lucky way, three of them.

I put one in my son's room, because his room is in the center of the house, and only has one outside wall, and it gets beastly hot in there.

I put the one in my Mom Cave (living room), because that room has two sunny windows, and also gets beastly hot.
I survived my bedroom, last night, without. I used fans.

Today, it's blessedly cooler, and looks to be that way for the next week, at least. I think I can take my time with my bedroom AC, thank all the gods, because it's not so simple as putting it in the window... I have to move the bed to the other wall, which involves cleaning out underneath, and vacuuming. It's kind of a project, though not a long one. I shall do that next week.
Because! And because... today is my partner D's birthday 💕💕💕

And it's also the Beltane celebration at our place of... hmm, worship? Not the right word, but it's the one that comes to mind. At the First Kingdom Church of Asphodel, which really is a church, albeit a Pagan one. It's a 401c3 non profit, and yeah, they could use donations, if anyone feels so inclined. Their house at the farm could use some serious work before next Winter. They all went kinda without heat for the last month, or more, of this Winter.
Here is their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/KingdomOfAsphodel/

For D's birthday, the radio station that D volunteers at could also use some funding-- they are a community radio station, which, I have learned, is utterly different from a public radio station. It's the only one, so it doesn't get all that huge backing that some public stations do. Here is the link to that Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/wcuw91.3fm/ and there is a DONATE button up to the right, on that page.
It's a wicked cool station-- I'm not generally brand-loyal when it comes to radio, but I tend to have my car station at 91.3 more often than not. They're pretty awesome.
And you can also stream it online: http://www.wcuw.org/ and you can donate there, too. Even like $20, if you have it, is helpful!
D's show is The Freeway Freak, Monday nights from 5-7pm Eastern Time, and the show is called The Drive at Five. There's a Drive at Five every weekday, and all the DJs are different, but all the shows are cool. Friday night blues is awesome, too. I'm so exciting that I hang my laundry to that, almost every Friday *giggle*

So there's my free promotions to things I care about. I'm not involved in any way except I care. That's it 💖

So it's May.... I pulled a tarot card for May, and my card was the Four of Wands, which is Fennel in my Herbal Tarot deck. There is a picture of two folks dancing-- fairies? Angels? They have wings. One is dressed in pinkish, and one in blue. Both their wings are blue. One is blonde and one is brunette, and they have their arms about each other, and they are above the ground, feet not touching the Earth. The wands and the fennel grow tall all around.
I took this to mean to play, be light-hearted, dance!
The booklet says, among other things, balancing of opposing wills and spirits. I am taking this to mean, for May, be light hearted, lighten up, dance, play, and seek BALANCE!

Blessed Beltane, all! And happy, happy birthday, to D. I love you, dearest one 💗💙💚💛💜

Beltaine!

Oh, so Merry Beltane 💜💛💚💙💗

I'm sitting in my Mom Cave, at near to 6am, gazing at the newly waning Moon. It's now light out before 6am.
My teen now has a job! And they have a half day of school today. He asked could he stay home and not go, that plenty of other kids are not going, and I said sure. Why not. It's a stupid motivational speaker and I'd want to stay home, too. He has to work 2-9 tonight-- he doesn't normally home from school till 2:20, so you betcha those McD's folks have a bead on the school calendar and knew they could eke another hour out of my boy.
So I'm sitting here, as I said, in my Mom Cave, enjoying an extra hour of quiet because the boy is sleeping. and I don't have to be the motivator. Yay!

Did you wash your face in the morning dew yesterday? To retain your youthful beauty? I did. As I do every Beltaine. Other than that, I worked, and I lost sleep last night because the night before, I had to pick up my boy from work when it was past my bedtime. So I came home and took a nap.
I was going to go for a date with my partner, but they had to work late and they were wiped out, so we didn't go... which is probably good, 'cause I fell asleep by 9:30 and I have to pick up the boy past my bedtime again tonight.
I need to learn this art of The Nap.

We shall celebrate Beltane this weekend. May 5th is my partner D's birthday. We'll be going to the Beltane ritual at Asphodel, where we celebrate all our holy days, and I hope to dance the Maypole, which I love. I think I shall wear purple. And I would like to paint my toenails purple, as well. And then go to D's house and celebrate Beltane proper, and also D's birthday 💗

Oh! We have a song! Our band is called Punk Rock Treehouse. It's only the two of us right now, so no playing live unless we get other people-- studio band only, for the moment. And if you can believe it, D has talked Sheena into doing what Sheena Does Not Do, which is sing-- I'm sharing lead vocals, GASP! Hush, you 😜 Here is the link to the song, which is called Manifesto: http://instantdogma.net/TH/Manifesto.mp3

Have fun with that! And Merry Beltane!

March 2018

Here it is almost the ides of March 2018, and we are having the 2nd Snowpocalypse of the month.

I am so grateful that work called me to ask if I wanted to call out, because I was waffling back and forth about it. I've called out so much, it seems to me, because of weather. I don't think I'm going to lose my position over it, but the thought had occurred to me.
I'm a caregiver for the elderly and disabled, in-home, and those folks don't ever take days off or have holidays, and I really should be there... and if I worked more local to me, I would have gone in. But my client is an hour out and I am NOT getting caught on the side of the road in a blizzard with my kid and two cats at home. Nope nope nope.

So that said, I haven't much had the heart to write anything for a very long time, because of the crazy surreal world that the United States is in. I feel like I live in a Dali painting. There is an email loop I subscribe to, called What The F*** Happened Today, about all the things that happened today re: the White House and such. And every day I read it and I really DO go to myself "What the f***...?"
Yes, it is that crazy. That surreal. And it's like... it's like the New Normal. Nobody bats an eye. Me, I have eyes as big as tea saucers over every new weirdness. Everytime I think something can't get more crazy... it does.

Right now I am sitting in my Mom Cave, the living room that mostly only I occupy, which is why it's my Mom Cave, and it's Snowpocalypse and it's blizzard conditions and it's 7:25am and the whole world is not awake except for plows. And there's a huge, thousands-strong murder of crows flying madly from West-ish to East-ish over my house. Making a mad racket. They've been doing this for a good half hour. Nutty crows. I wonder what they're up to in a snowstorm? But I love them and I am glad they are here. Stay safe, crows <3

My partner and I are starting a music project. It's exciting to be practicing drums for a song-- I haven't done that in years and years. It's fun, yay!

Not much to say. Just trying to restart my writings.

Sunday, November 5, 2017

I have not been able to write all dang year, because the political situation in this country has been so... well, insane. Every day I wake up wondering if Ima wake up at all. We have an insane person at the helm, folks, and every day is so freaking surreal.

Okay. So.
I don't even wanna go there, because it's so depressing and I live in such an unreality, now, it's all I can do to keep my personal life afloat.
Which is to say, I made that sound all wrong, because my personal life is so amazing anymore. SO amazing... that person I started dating last year at this time, we have just celebrated a year of being together, life partners, committed romantic companions, and we had rings made by my friend Jo, who is an amazing jeweler (I dunno if even that's her official title).
An aside: Jo and I went to Syracuse University together, and she majored in metals, and she actually pursued her major into careerhood. AND, she's still playing music. She was in my first band, in the way way back. Name of Distortion. In Syracuse, in like '79-80 when I was Sheena (and still am, in some circles).
Oh, and my most amazing drum teacher, Dave Read, died back in like January. He was only like 63 or 64, and he had 3 cancers. I'm still crying now and then over that. He was such an enormous influence on me. I spoke his name at the Samhain ritual, and left an offering of drum sticks for him. He is on my altar this year :(

So my partner and I, we exchanged rings at Samhain, at our common Pagan place to go, which is to say The First Kingdom Church of Asphodel here in Massachusetts. It's not a coven, that I'm aware of, but I do belong to it. It is a church, officially, and it's a 401-C 3 non profit. I've been a member for 3 years or so. And we exchanged rings and made our vows in front of the whole company, and got cheers and clapping and stuff <3
And that relationship has gotten nothing if not MORE amazing over the year. I wish I had known that relationships could be so good, years ago. Well... better late than never.

And hir relationship with hir two other partners is as strong as ever, and I have met both of them and they are both amazing people, which is why I suppose D loves them, and one has a live-in partner, and I met him, too, and he's awesome. My kid also met them all, and likes everybody.

And... I kind of have another partner of my own. My friend A, from WAY back in the day, and I, have gotten super close as friends, and have developed a deeper intimacy together. So I guess I am officially polyamorous and not just by virtue of being in a partnership with one person who's poly. How cool is that?

I'm still on a mission of Being Nice. The tougher and uglier the world gets, well, I am not cowing to that at all. Nope nope nope.

Laterz!

New Year's Day 2017

Welp, here it is the first day of 2017.
I want to say Happy New Year, because it's tradition, and habit, and that is what one does, but I'm not so sure about the faith I have that the next 4 years (or more, good gracious, bite my tongue) will be anything but happy.

At least for marginalized people. It appears, rapidly, that discrimination is once again going to be the law of the land, only not just for black folks, and not that gay people and other such just get to be as invisible as possible, like in the good ol' days, but they get to be actively discriminated against, too, by law.

I'm still rather in denial that things won't just tootle along like they have been for the last 8 years. Intellectually, I know this isn't going to happen. But the whole situation is so dire, so crazy, so impossible, that it's all I can do to just sit here with my mouth agape and hanging down to my knees, and my eyes big as tea saucers.
What a fucking mess, excuse my language.

So since my last post, with that first date, things fell hard and fast with that person, and I'm now a full partner to hir-- who is polyamorous and has two other partners in two other states. Those relationships are going on 7 years each, and... well, wow. Just, wow.
If there isn't anything the Universe didn't just hit me upside the head with about I AM NOT THE BOSS OF YOU, it's this. It's a heavy lesson in loss of control (not in a bad way-- but in a I AM ONLY IN CONTROL OF ME way) and also an EVERYTHING I EVER LET GO OF, I LEFT CLAW MARKS IN kind of way.
Heavy, heavy lessons, those./
I am being loved like I never have before. I am being honored and held and paid attention to, more in the past couple weeks than in the past well-over-16-years. Or more.
I'm gobsmacked.
And I'm happy as a pig in mud.
Most of the time.
It's a very real possibility that-- it's been brought up to me that it's possible I am feeling some PTSD, which I have never considered before, but it's appearing more and more that I have suffered some very real trauma from my past relationships, but dammit-- Ima gonna heal from all that. Days I just break down and cry, unexpectedly, like this morning, and days I am just fine and dandy and kick-ass and determined. It's a dance, it is.
But I am NOT going to lay down and let it consume me. Nope. Not.

Back to the first topic, I'm seriously worried about the state of, well, the world, starting with right here in the good ol' USA, which is about to become the fascist USA right here in my very lifetime. And I'm super worried for my big beautiful vat of transgender friends, whom I love with every fiber of  my being. I'm not good at fighting. I'm much better at hiding, and making soup on the sidelines for those who need it, but maybe a whole bunch of soup and hugs are in order, hey. I gots superpowers. Ima gonna use them.

Starting with my new love, and my friends whom I circle with. I'm still gonna be the best, kindest, lovingest me I can be. Oh, and starting with my ownself, too. Self-care, and all that.

Well if this wasn't round-and-round... sorry for the incoherence. It's New Year's *yawn*

What Keeps Me Going

A friend asked the other day, on Facebook, what keeps you going, in these times of strife and ugly and mean? In this volatile time of the upcoming US election, and all the vitriol being slung from all directions?

This was my answer:

What I learned from being in recovery so long, is it's really only one day at a time, even for y'all not in recovery.
I have a date tonight and it's my first one in like... forever. Especially since my last several relationships imploded from major, major dysfunction.
I have hope, but I'm terrified, as I have precious little faith in my ability to pick someone not insane. And the older I get, the more baggage there is, so that's hard.
As for the world... maybe it IS Tower Time, who knows. People had faith that Rome's empire would last. And as we all know who made it to here, it tragically didn't. Or maybe not so tragically, unless you were from Rome.
My kid. My kid keeps me going. He's offensive as all hell, on purpose, but inside he has an unshakeable goodness to him and a faith in propagating the species (NOT yet, thank all the gods) and in love and in hope and in a faith that somehow, the world will be there for him when he grows up.
I keep going and going and being well and being good to people and putting one foot in front of the other, and sharing and smiling and holding doors for people.
I work elderly in-home care because I love old people. I love kids and babies and I just love and love and love, even when I have no hope and no faith, I keep on lovin'.

Samhaintide

My word, here it is Samhain, and I have forgotten (or procrastinated, more like) to write again for three months. Shame on me.

I've had a lot going on.

I'm making new friends, learning to get along on my own again without a partner, parenting my teen son. Meanwhile, the world, or at least the United States, is in a bit of a shambles with this election coming up next week. I don't ever talk politics, but boy-howdy this one is going to be a doozy.
I was brought up that my vote is my private business, so I will not say who I am voting for. But I will say I really ought, if it wasn't so critical, this, to sit back with the popcorn and watch the fur fly.
This is one time I am SO glad I haven't had television in the last 25 or more years.
I really think we oughtta go back to the soapbox days, where the candidates say what they are going to do for the nation, and exactly how they plan to implement it, instead of the mud-slinging, which is so ugly.
Not to mention that the internet and social media has really given rise to the ugly in Americans-- I don't know what that's about except perhaps it's safer to be mean behind a screen.
Me, I refuse to do that. I will not go there.
Believe me, I have my ugly just like most folks, but I am keeping my counsel. My mom taught me if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all, and there's times I just love that Southern saying "Bless their heart" because that has all kinds of nuance to it.

Have I gotten off on a rant or what?

This Samhain, I'm thinking mostly of my dad.

When I was 11 or so, my dad used to sit me in the front seat and hand me the map and make me navigate. He was an airline pilot, and navigating and weather and all that was in his blood. I hated it, at the time... "See that highway sign? Is it an interstate or a county road? Where is that town, can you find it on the map? There's a railroad crossing, see it? On the map. How many miles to X town?"... and on and on, till I thought I would die.
Now? I can find my way out of anywhere. I can read a map like nobody's business, and I think it's a dying talent, with GPS and all. I do use the GPS, but there's nothing like an old-fashioned printed paper map.

Also, I can pack like a boss. The car, the carry-on bag, my purse, a backpack. My dad, I got that from my dad. He could really pack the car and the boat when we went camping. I have been called Mary Poppins, and that is a high compliment, to me. I hear PL Travers was rather a Witchy sort, too. I will take it!

And you know what? I realized this year that I am more interested in weather than I thought I was. I have had NOAA as my homepage for a couple of years, and I read the Farmer's Almanac, and while I have a barometer/thermometer/humidity gauge on my wall for a couple of years, too, in honor of my father, I think I may actually learn how to read that barometer.

Thinking of you, Daddy. Thank you for teaching me those skills. Thank you for what you didn't teach, that I inherited naturally from you. Thank you for pretending I was old enough to dance with you, at the clubhouse dances. I'm honored. I danced with (for) you this morning, in your honor. I miss you.

Blessed Samhain, y'all. And Happy New Year.

HOTHOTHOT

Oh, it is hot. It is hot beyond hot.

It was 96* at its peak today, and I do not do well in the heat. WILT. I wilt. And, hot flashes. In the heat. Oh, misery.

I do elder care, and the lady I care for in the morning does not have AC in her home. It was eighty-five degrees in her house. Eighty-five.
Thankfully it was only three hours and I was able, somehow, to power through and say little prayers of gratitude, like mantras, that I am able to be of service to her.

But it makes me wonder, with all the elderly folks I care for and have cared for, they all get cold, all, and when is this magical day when I start to run cold? I never have.

Nor, now I think of it, have I ever, most of the time, slept less than 9 hours at a stretch. I can get by on eight. Barely. But that was supposed to start diminishing with age, too, and ain't happened yet, and when I get as old as the people I care for (my current one is 88yo), they sleep more, not less, and geez Louise I will be sleeping my life away.

Now, sleep is paramount, to me. It's one of my top priorities, or I can't function.

So, in one of the threads I'm following on Facebook, one of my Witchy friends has posted What Are You Doing For Self Care. I did not write sleep, though I should have. I did write that I am taking time for Netflix (OITNB Season 4, anyone?), which if I don't make the time, I won't take the time, know what I mean?
Hey, how cool is that, a new saying, woohoo! and it rhymes, too! I win!

So that, and I am sending love and blessings to someone I love, who is in a peck of trouble right now, and it's not likely to diminish anytime soon. And putting slips of paper in my Blessings Jar, which I will read one by one at the New Year, and see just how blessed I have been over the past year.

It's Lammastide, and I am, as I've said before, enrolled in Joanna Powell Colbert's 30-Days courses, which I love. You can't beat $19.99 with a stick, and you get a daily pause and dose of seasonal Witchery, and also a nifty secret Facebook group to share on. It's really super cool.
Or, hot, as the case may be... boy, I'm full of shenanigans today, aren't I?
Anyway.
Lammas.
Which I'm usually not fond of, nor Midsummer, because, well, heat, and as I said at the beginning, I am not fond of heat.
But this time I'm able to... well, languish. I'm wanting cooler weather, sure, but I am not pining for it as I usually do. I'm able to lay back and just be, and be in the moment lots more because of the things I learn and share in those groups.
So I'm gonna attempt right now to link JPC's home page, and if you go to the bottom, you will see a link for Ecourses, and you can sign up for the next one: http://www.gaiansoul.com/ Oooh, I think it worked! Now go see for yourself how cool she is. She lives way out off the West coast on an island in the Pacific Northwest. Someday, perhaps, she and I will meet in person.

At any rate. That's enough ramblings from me, today. Go do some self-care, Witchy ones! A nap, perhaps? Go languish, while the languishing is good.

On Happiness

I am learning from my many failed relationships that I can only create and get happiness from within, not depend on getting it from without.
It’s a journey.
So, Alanon, plus Gretchin Rubin, plus many other pokes from various sources.

Living in the moment is helpful. I have to practice mindfulness, and I don't always. It's a mental shift, but when I can do it, and that is a little more frequently, they are lovely Be Here Now moments.

I’m learning and believing that joy and happiness are *choices*. Sometimes, when I have grief or unhappy or grumpy, or depression, which I can be prone to, I still get to *choose* to wallow in those for the time being, and let them happen. This too shall pass, whichever I am going through.

Happiness isn’t about getting rid of negative emotions. We’re a bundle of ALL the emotions, and that is okay. Sometimes it makes me happy to realize it's okay to feel all my feelings.
Creating and re-creating myself. If this isn't magick, then what is?

Punk Rock Witch

I mostly post about the weather, I know, and the differences I've noticed between MA and NC, where I moved from, and there are plenty. Even 3 years in, I still feel like I'm in a foreign country, often.

Did y'all know I was a punk rock drummer back in the day? Okay, so I am 56 years young, and in 1979 or so, I was at college, and I was asked to play drums in a new band that my friends were trying to form. I had a set of drums because I had gotten a wild hair a couple months prior (bought from an ad on the grocery store bulletin board), but I didn't do anything with it. My brother mostly played them.

So, being punk, they said "Bring the drums here,  and learn how, and you can be our drummer!" So I did.
I took lessons at the same time the band was writing songs and learning how to be a band. I had to tell the drum teacher "I need to learn how to play the drums right now, because I'm already in a band". He honestly tried to teach me paradiddles and such, alongside 4/4 beats, but I never did learn the rudiments. I did, however, play in that band on stage within four months, and did a fair job of it, if I do say so myself.

And then continued on to play in more bands, till I moved to NC in 1988 and had another band for awhile, which I thought rather s*cked compared to my prior bands, but it was fun. And then I mostly stopped.

But THANK ALL THE GODS FOR THE INTERNET, because in '07 there was a reunion party, which I went to, and then in 2014 there was a huge one, and way more sophisticatedly run, with 12 of the orignal bands from back in the day. Including my first band, Distortion. The one I mentioned above. It was the most amazing time ever.

And then, just this past Sunday, there was another one. I didn't play this one, but it was even more amazing than the last one, if that is possible.

Here is my account of that, copied and pasted from a Facebook group I'm on:

Back in ‘79-80 or so was the beginning of punk rock, more or less. I played drums for punk bands in Syracuse, NY. It was an amazing scene, bands supporting each other, ones that were more popular giving newer, inexperienced bands a chance to be the opening band, so they’d get practice and exposure.
There had to be some 150 people strong, or more, at any given time. We all went out to see whichever band, every night, and they would come see us.
HUGE, tight scene. Everyone knew everyone else’s name.

Fast fwd to 2007, there was a reunion of sorts in Syracuse, and I was at my brother’s in upstate NY for Christmas. They kept my son overnight and I hopped over to Syracuse for that. It was amazing.
In 2014, there was a HUGE reunion. Twelve of the original bands that formed and played in ‘79-80 graced the stage. My first band, Distortion, was one of the honored guests. It was the most amazing night of my life, probably ever.
And then this past Sunday night was another one. I didn't play this time, but there were a whole bunch of good and loyal punk rockers from back in the day.
Thank all the gods for internet. My whole punk scene, all 150-odd, is and has been back in touch and we all love one another so, so much, still.

Oh! And Tom Kenny, the voice of Sponge Bob, was one of our original scene. He was there last night. I haven’t seen him in 25 years, though I have been able to sort of keep up with his awesome success thru the media. And my son got a pic with him so he can name drop at school 😉 He hasn't changed since back in the day. None of us really have, I think! We were all transformed to the 16-25yo’s that we once were.

People say you can’t go back again. I say HELL yes, you can!
